Weekly look ahead: 15th October

Tuesday, 15 October, 2019

This week I talk about an upcoming seminar with WASPI women, a meeting with the British Youth Council, my eco-tip (do send in any suggestions!) and a new Brexit deal.

Yesterday we had the Queen’s Speech, which set the Government’s ambitious domestic agenda. I particularly welcome the focus on tackling violent crime, the confirmation that the Domestic Abuse Bill is being carried over, legally enforceable targets for environmental principles and the additional funding for our schools - something that as a West Sussex MP I have been campaigning on for too long.

Weekly Videos & Herald Column

On this page you can find my weekly column that I write for the Worthing Herald, with my reflections on the week's events in Westminster and in the constituency.

Women State Pension Inequality Campaign

Women State Pension Inequality

Changes that came in a number of years ago are impacting on women born in the 1950s and are seeing their pensionable age rise from 60 to 66. I have had a number of representations from constituents and I think the changes are unfair. Whilst I am supportive of equalising the pensionable age between men and women, what I think has been missed here is that these women have been given very little notice of when these changes were coming in, in some cases just 18 months. This gave them very little time to make other previsions.

Brexit

Brexit

The events immediately following the result of the EU referendum were momentous and will shape the future of our country for years to come.

It is remarkable how a little bit of sunshine and buds appearing on the trees can lift the spirits.
