As part of the current devolution proposals for Sussex, the Government is looking at creating at least three unitary authorities and possibly changing their boundaries. They launched a consultation to ask for local people’s views on the way ahead. That consultation closed on April 13th 2025 but the details can be found here https://tinyurl.com/43e99k4k
In my submission I made it clear that expanding the boundaries of Brighton & Hove to enlarge it as a unitary authority would not be popular especially if it involved ‘gobbling up’ Adur and Worthing and possibly other neighbouring districts. East Worthing & Shoreham Conservatives organised a petition to this effect too, so thank you if you signed it or expressed similar views if you responded to the consultation.
We now have to wait until the Autumn until the Government makes it clear what the eventual make up of the new unitary authorities across the Sussex Mayoral Combined Authority will be.
