I learnt a little more about Worthing’s rich history with the unveiling of a blue plaque to former Union Place resident Dr Frederick Dixon by the Worthing Society last week Elm Lawn House. This is the latest of the Society’s heritage plaque accompanied by a leaflet giving the story of this surgeon and philanthropist who set up Worthing’s first dispensary in 1829, as well as being a renowned geologist and founder of the Sussex Archaeology Society.
