Tim Thanks Everyone For Their Hard Work During The Extreme Cold Weather
On behalf of everyone in East Worthing and Adur can I offer congratulations and thanks to all those who have been working round the clock to try and keep things going during this week's extreme weather conditions. It was good to see council staff from the refuse and parks departments unable to go out on their normal rounds lend a hand with gritting and clearing pavements. Whilst a national shortage of grit has made it impossible to keep open all roads certainly locally there has certainly been a more effective response this time than during the cold snap before Christmas. It was great to see Shoreham's farmer's market go ahead on Saturday at the Shoreham Centre with the pavements pretty clear around the shops to get there.
Thanks also to the voluntary organisations and individual volunteers who have kept an eye out for our older neighbours stuck in their homes and to the emergency services and hospitals for having to deal with an unprecedented leap in call outs. It has been interesting to see the initiative and determination of many to keep businesses going as normally as possible and well done to those few schools who did manage to open their doors for pupils particularly at this important exam time for some. Well done also to my paperboy who managed to deliver our newspapers almost on time each day down our remote lane whilst we have been without post for almost a week now.
