Loughton: regrets at no award for Henry Allingham

Commenting on the decision by the Ministry of Defence to refuse a posthumous honour for First World War veteran Henry Allingham, Tim Loughton MP for East Worthing and Shoreham commented:

‘The decision is deeply disappointing for everyone who has campaigned so hard for an award for Henry. I believe that the MoD should have recognised his  unique  contribution  as one of the last remaining participants in the Great War and one of the last survivors of that lost generation as well as for his work with children in particular to remember the lessons of war.

‘He was an extraordinary man who is greatly missed not just by his family and friends but also by his fellow countrymen at large.’

NOTES

On 11 November this year there will be a national event in Westminster Abbey to mark to the passing of the WWI generation in the presence of HM The Queen and His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh.
