Tim convenes a public meeting to discuss the Grove Lodge Roundabout
On June 26th 2008 Tim chaired a public meeting at Broadwater First & Middle School to give local residents the opportunity to be updated on the changes to the A27 around the Grove Lodge roundabout since the traffic lights were installed over 2 years ago. The meeting was able to fire questions at local Highways Agency chief Martin Wright, his colleague Ian Kennard and Peter Bradley for West Sussex Count Council highways department.
The meeting was not to discuss the ongoing need for a bypass around Worthing which remains elusive as ever. Instead it is vital that we concentrate efforts on smoothing traffic flow within existing roads which was the intention behind the new lights. However, their installation was controversial at the time and the great majority of residents at the meeting questioned whether they had made the situation worse, and the knock on effect on rat running seems to have caused further problems.
The new SCCOT system (Split Cycle Offset Optimisation Technique) is now fully operational between Grove Lodge and Lyons Farm which means that traffic light changes are sensitive to traffic build-up rather than fixed intervals. But has it made things any better?
Tim wants to hear your views. The Highways Agency have promised a full review of the scheme, carried out in conjunction with the County Council, to be completed by December 31st 2008. I want as many residents as possible to inform that review by sending their own submissions to the address below, copying letters into me, and completing this survey which will be submitted as part of the consultation. You can take Tim's survey on this important subject at www.telltim.co.uk.
