Tim pledges to remember the Holocaust
East Worthing and Shoreham MP Tim Loughton has signed the Holocaust Memorial Day Book of Commitment to honour the memory of those whose lives were destroyed by the Holocaust and pay tribute to the bravery of people who risked their own lives to protect those who were being persecuted.
The Book of Commitment formed part of this year's Holocaust Memorial Day which was held on 27th January this year. The Holocaust Memorial Day is in its sixth year and this year it aims to celebrate the courageous acts performed in the midst of evil which allowed those who would otherwise have died to live.
Tim commented:
"It is crucial to remember the horrendous acts of genocide which were perpetrated on our doorstep as little as sixty years ago. Unless we recall the millions who were mercilessly killed then the lessons learned through hatred and conflict will be lost for future generations. Remembering the evils of fascism gives us the strength to fight racism and anti-Semitism today.
"The theme of this year's Memorial Day is that just one person can make a difference. This is a message we should take with us for life. I hope that it will encourage people to stand up for what is right and the fight against oppression wherever they experience it."
