Tim goes MAD in a GreenHouse at Meadow Road
East Worthing MP Tim Loughton spent last Friday afternoon lending a hand with the GreenHouse project in Meadow Road, East Worthing, as part of Make a Difference (MAD) volunteering day, finding out more about the new recycling scheme of which he is a patron.
MAD day is run by the volunteering charity CSV of which Tim is a national trustee. The GreenHouse project was opened on the old Worthing Council refuse depot.
The GreenHouse promotes recycling of furniture for reuse by needy people in the town and has expanded into a range of household goods and environmentally friendly products, and has already won awards for its innovative approach. Tim was able to meet other volunteers and Guild Care Development Manager Jennie Musgrove and go out on a delivery round with the scheme manager and long serving volunteer Ken Young.
Tim commented:
"'This is a really exciting project and I am delighted that we have it here in East Worthing. It is already putting Worthing on the map for innovative ways of enabling people to do their bit for the environment.
"This is proving a very valuable scheme on a whole range of fronts. It encourages people to re-use furniture that might otherwise go in a tip. Secondly it enables people on low incomes trying to kit out a property to do so at a knockdown price. Thirdly it is a very important educational tool for teaching young people in particular the importance of doing their bit for the environment before it is too late.
"What with the fantastic Alchemist Store on the same site this is becoming the 'green hub' of Worthing and I would encourage everyone to visit for some bargains and see how they can get involved with the great work that is going on here."
Jennie Musgrove for Guild Care commented:
"Unlike other charities who turn down furniture which needs renovation, we can do it up and recycle it for charity. The GreenHouse is a charity superstore with a difference. We want people to come in and browse".
