Tim saves energy for the sake of the environment

East Worthing and Shoreham MP Tim Loughton is calling on his constituents to join the Energy Saving Trust's campaign and reduce their energy consumption by 20%.

In support of the UK target to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 20% by 2010, the Energy Saving Trust has devised the 'Save Your 20%' campaign as a way of highlighting both the economic and environmental reasons for not wasting energy. The campaign outlines everyday steps that people can take to help lessen the effects of modern technology. The campaign was launched today and marks the ninth annual Energy Saving Week.

Tim commented:

"I will be checking energy consumption in my own home and encouraging my staff to be energy conscious throughout the week and beyond. If we are all just a little more careful we can do a great deal to tackle climate change. By remembering to turn the light off when we leave the room, not leaving the television on standby or turning the thermostat down one degree we can all help the environment and save money at the same time.

"Climate change is one of the biggest threats facing mankind and reducing its impacts is one of the greatest challenges. If residents of Adur and East Worthing need more tips on how they can save energy then they should log on to www.saveyour20percent.co.uk and read up on a number of simple steps they can follow at home. Individually we can make a real difference."
