Tim supports the NSPCC's biggest ever children protection progmamme
Last Thursday, East Worthing and Shoreham MP Tim Loughton launched locally the NSPCC's Talk 'til it stops campaign. The campaign aims to mobilise professionals and the community to take action to end child abuse.
Talk 'til it stops will encourage people to talk to each other if they are worried about a child. The NSPCC says that talking can help a person work out what they should do and give them the confidence to act on their concerns.
As part of the campaign, the NSPCC have sent out free booklets from the Educare programme. These booklets have gone out to people ranging from GPs to dinner ladies and they explain approaches that can be taken if there are worries about the welfare of a child.
Tim commented:
"I am delighted to be part of this very important campaign. As the Shadow Children's minister over the last 3 years I am only too aware of the dangers faced by young and vulnerable children in our society. Great strides have been made over recent years to inform the public and children themselves about exposing and avoiding abuse of children. Legislation such as the Children Act is making a contribution towards this and children's organisations led by the NSPCC have had a tremendous impact.
"I very much welcome the Talk 'til it stops' campaign, which is key to much of this is information sharing and enables many thousands of professionals who come into contact with children to use the EduCare modules and act on their concerns about possible child abuse in the most effective way. I will certainly be doing the 'distance' by reading my Educare pack as I believe it will help me pass on the message in my work."
