Tim Loughton backs David Davis for new Conservative leader
In a letter this week published in The Times, East Worthing & Shoreham MP Tim Loughton has given his support to David Davis as the next leader of the Conservative Party.
Tim commented:
"There are a number of talented candidates emerging as potential leaders of the Conservative Party. However, after consulting with my local constituency party I have decided to add my name to the David Davis team. I have known David for some time and he has been one of the most impressive performers at the Despatch Box in recent months, particularly in defence of civil liberties when arguing against some of the Government's more draconian and unworkable measures to deal with the problems of terrorism.
It is fundamental to Conservative Party values to recognise that the state is interfering too much in everybody's lives and that people flourish when allowed to use their own talents and express themselves freely. We desperately need to improve our public services yet under Labour too much of the taxpayer's money has been wasted on increasing bureaucracy and bureaucrats. In health and education in particular it is those least well off who are suffering most from the widening divides in our society. David Davis has pledged himself to address himself to new solutions which tackle these injustices and waste as a priority. He has the background and experience to see this through and I am delighted to be helping his campaign."
