MP calls for an end to snaring cruelty
Tim Loughton MP for East Worthing and Shoreham today announced his support for a nationwide campaign to end the use of snares to capture and kill British Wildlife.
Along with a cross party group of MPs, Tim Loughton signed Early Day Motion 75 which calls for a ban on the ?manufacture, sale and use? of snares.
Tim Loughton, who is also Treasurer of the All party Animal welfare Group commented:
'I am happy to be associated with this campaign which seeks to end the suffering inevitably caused by the use of snares in our countryside. They are cruel and indiscriminate, injuring and killing protected species like badgers and livestock, and household pets, as well as the targeted animals.
There is no justification for the use of such inhumane devices and the fact that they remain legal in this country places us in a small minority within Europe.'
The League Against Cruel Sports praised Tim Loughton MP for his support of the anti-snaring campaign. The League?s Chief Executive, Douglas Batchelor said:
'While our investigations into the suffering caused to animals snaring has raised the issue with the public, it takes political support to create effective change. By joining the campaign against snares, Tim Loughton MP is leading the way to improved animal welfare in Britain today.'
