Loughton Impressed by Renovation of Canteen and Dance Studio at King's Manor
Tim Loughton MP for East Worthing and Shoreham was full of congratulations to the Head of King?s Manor School in Shoreham, as well as her staff and governors for giving the school an admirable face lift, with the transformation of an ordinary school canteen into ?Ocean?s Student Diner? and the modernisation of an old science lab into a dance studio.
Tim Loughton commented:
'I was delighted to be asked to open officially the new dance studio and see some of the students enthusiastically making good use of it. The transformation of the old science room has been very skillfully done and the result looks very professional indeed. Clearly this is a going to be a facility which will be very well enjoyed by students both in and out of school hours and will boost further the school?s reputation for excellence in performing arts.
'The new dining room is quite incredible and anyone would think they were eating in an up market diner. The use of stainless steel counters and music videos playing in every corner is a very imaginative way of creating a relaxed feel and making school meals a fun social occasion.'
It is clear that a lot of work has also gone into producing an excellent range of healthy and attractive lunchtime options proving that young people can survive without chips and burgers. The kitchen staff are also to be congratulated for the way they have taken up the challenge to encourage pupils to eat more healthily at a time when childhood obesity is reaching epidemic proportions.
Tim Loughton commented further:
As Shadow Children's Minister, I am used to visiting a lot of schools to see how they are dealing with these health challenges, yet this was one of the most impressive and imaginative examples I have seen so far which students are enthusiastically engaging in.
'I am delighted that it is happening in my own constituency and I look forward to hearing about further exciting innovations that are underway at Kings Manor and furthermore I hope that local parents and residents will give their support to this important local school which is clearly going places.'
