Loughton's Dozen: Number 4...

Stop the Garden Grab

Due to changes in planning regulations by Government and the demand to crowd ever more houses into Sussex to meet centrally imposed targets houses with large gardens in Worthing & Adur are being bought up by developers to replace with high density flats often out of keeping with the local area.

Tim supported changes to the new Planning Bill in the Lords which give special restrictions to those trying to develop gardens, groups of gardens and urban green spaces. This follows a string of attempts by Conservative MPs to change the legislation to bring about this protection, especially by Caroline Spelman MP who launched her own Private Members Bill to change the planning rules to protect gardens.

Unfortunately the Government did not support them so our gardens still remain vulnerable to developers.
